Community Services and Supports
The Australian Federal and NSW State Governmentsfund community service organisations to support migrants with housing, daily living and financial support. There are programs designed to assist with fostering a way of living that aligns with your values, while allowing you to become accustomed to the Australian culture. As we are known to be a friendly and laid back community, we pride ourselves in supporting those who are experiencing hardship and are vulnerable.
With effective case management supports from organisations such as Settlement Services Australia (SSI) you are able to be guided through your journey of becoming a new Australian resident. From assistance with education, employment, health & wellbeing, and settlement services, SSI is one of many organisations that will support a compassionate and collaborative approach so you and your family can adjust to living in Australia.
Furthermore, the New South Wales Government funds programs such as Community Living Support Refugee (CLS-R), to assist people who have been adversely affected by mental health. The CLS-R program is designed to assist with daily living skills, such as budgeting, grocery shopping, developing routines and assistance with transport. In order to be eligible for this program you must be linked in with your local community health centre, where your care will be overseen by a clinical care coordinator.
Here are a few of the community services that are available to support you, throughout your settlement period and beyond. It’s important to note that you may be eligible for additional supports and it’s best to communicate with your case worker so that your needs can be addressed. These can include housing, employment, education, and financial support.
