Services

At the last census in 2021, more than 2.2 million NSW residents spoke a language other than English at home, which is over 27% of the population. More than half of all people living in NSW were either born overseas, or have a parent who was born overseas. NSW multicultural and refugee health policies, plans and services recognise, respect and embrace the linguistic and cultural diversity of our people.

The NSW Refugee Health Service (RHS) is a state-wide service, funded by the Ministry of Health. It provides a range of clinical services and medical assessments for recently arrived refugees and asylum seekers. Activities also include policy input, research, projects and a range of health promotion initiatives.

NSW Refugee Health Service has also produced or partnered to produce a range of Multilingual Health Resources, which can be downloaded directly or accessed from this site.

More than 200 public and private hospitals are located across Sydney and regional NSW.

Mental Health Support Services:

A range of mental health care professionals and associated services are available throughout NSW.
